Meet loud and proud Matthew Tallant. Matthew is Technical Designer for Zesti, brewing bright ideas beneath that fantastic neon green barnet on the daily. Matthew is driven by a passion for design and boasts a natural flair with style and loves to get creative even in his spare time!
Let’s talk to the man himself…
I got my degree in fashion design from UCLAN, Preston. I fell into fashion design at college and realised quickly that it was something I loved and really excelled in. I loved every aspect from design, to pattern to sewing… I used to take on jobs as a seamstress while studying, which helped me flourish. I have now been working as a designer for 4 years, initially in fashion on mens and womenswear as well as print design. All this experience has helped me grow and progress to where I am today, being able to have more creative direction and work on exciting new products.
I can often be found sat at my sewing machine at home, making myself something new ready to wear for the weekend or scouring fabric shops, roll after roll for the new exciting fabrics to work with.
My overlocker, it was the first big thing I ever bought and changed my life when it came to sewing, suddenly I was making more and more, every week.
I would be a penguin, always loved them a child. Plus you get to waddle about all day in your own custom fur coat, what’s not to love?
That I am loud, vocally and personally, laughing far too loud or shouting at the tv, and c’mon who else have you seen with fluorescent green hair day to day?
Enchiladas, I love cooking Mexican food for myself and my family.
Stars Wars: The Phantom Menace – Can be a controversial choice, but the costumes of that film always fascinated and amazed me, it made me interested in being a designer.
The Invisible Man 1933 – I love old Hollywood and sci-films, and when you watch it through the lens of a 1933 viewer, the effects and story are mind-blowing.
Mean Girls – I could quote that film beginning to end, couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve watched it, just love it.
Mode is definitely the range that reflects me, sleek, minimal and well considered. Got to be in the tropic, love a bold colour.
Being able to design and work on something new for the market. Delivering garments that are fully functional, while being able to look and feel fashionable while they wear it to work. Hoping they look forward to putting it on everyday and can feel confident in themselves and their work, uniforms don’t have to be traditional and uncomfortable.
Well said Matthew, we just love creating garments that make people feel great. That’s what we’re all about here at Zesti. We design womens scrubs, mens tunics and have even partnered up with Skechers to finish off the look!
